Sources & Methodology
This page explains where information comes from and how Heib Career Portal generates learning and next-step suggestions. The goal is to reduce confusion—not to replace official hiring instructions.
Primary Sources
- USAJOBS (job announcements, filters, search experience)
- U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) (federal hiring concepts, pay/grade basics, Pathways references)
- Agency career pages and official hiring guidance (when linked inside the app)
What the App Does
- Explains job series, grades, Pathways, and common requirements in plain language.
- Helps students explore careers and track preparation steps (learning, resume, planning).
- Offers suggestions based on activity (e.g., saved careers, learning progress, quiz completion).
What the App Does Not Do
- It does not submit job applications.
- It does not guarantee interviews, referrals, or job offers.
- It does not override official USAJOBS or agency instructions.
How Recommendations Are Generated
Suggestions are educational and based on your activity. For example:
- Quiz completion may unlock a "career lane" and next steps.
- Saving a career may suggest a short learning step about eligibility.
- Completing a learning phase may suggest the next phase.
If you want the official source for a specific job, always use the job announcement on USAJOBS.
